Professional Diploma in 3D Animation and Visual Effects


Year 1
Fundamentals of 3D Animation & Creative Arts Training (12 months)(Part-time Evening)

Year 2

Advanced Animation & Visual Effects Training (12 months)(Part-time Evening)

Train to become a 3D Modeler, Animator, Texture & Lighting Artist, VFX Artist, or Digital Creative Artist.

(Portfolio Preparation) Complete team graduation projects and personal art portfolios.
 

(Career & Further Studies) Graduates can enter fields like film, TV, post-production, advertising, gaming, and art education, or pursue visual arts or multimedia degrees at local or overseas universities.

 Year 1 

Fundamentals of 3D Animation & Creative Arts Training
(12 Months) (Part-time Evening)


Course Objectives
Students will learn how to apply professional production techniques and skills during the foundational training to meet the current creative and production demands of the film, television, and gaming industries. They will begin to master using their creativity and skills to produce their own individual animated short films.

In the first part, every student must undergo comprehensive skill training and master basic digital graphic creation techniques. From modeling and character animation to texturing and lighting, students will complete the entire foundational training within 6 to 8 months.

 

Students must complete 6 specialized subjects, including:

  • MOD201 - Fundamentals of Digital Modeling (Hard Surface, Soft Surface & Sculpting)

  • ANI201 - Fundamentals of Character Animation (Principles of Animation, Body Mechanics, Camera & Acting)

  • LIG201 - Fundamentals of Digital Lighting (Color theory, Lighting & Filmmaking techniques in production)

  • SUF201 - Fundamentals of Surfacing (UV Mapping, Shading techniques & Surface Painting)

  • RIG201 - Fundamentals of Character Rigging (Character Body & Facial Setup, Constraint & Driven key, UI Setting)

  • CDA201 - Story & Visual Design in Animation (Story Structure, Character & Set Design, Storyboard & Color Script)

 

In the second part, students will begin specializing in advanced training across different professional tracks: Animation, Modeling, Lighting, and Surfacing. They will dive deep into industry production techniques used in animated short films and TV commercials. Through a 4-month individual animation project, students will integrate their learned skills into practical application.

Students must complete the following 2 project modules:

  • PROJ201A - Individual Animation Project (Pre-production: Pre-planning for small projects, animated short film story creation, scene and character design)

  • PROJ201B&C - Individual Animation Project (Production: Project management, animation technology development, completing the creation the individual animated short film)


Software includes: Blender, ZBrush, Substance, After Effects, Midjourney, ComfyUI, and various AI tools. (Tools are continuously updated to align with industry trends and demands!)
 

 Year 2 

Advanced Animation & Visual Effects Training
(12 Months) (Part-time Evening)

Course Objectives
Cultivate students' keen observation skills and artistic foundations, while using the latest advanced digital technologies in visual effects and animated feature films to elevate their professional skills to an industry standard.

In the first part, students will learn higher-level digital graphics techniques and elevate their aesthetic sense to a higher level in 6-months. Training will cover required for visual effects, such as physics simulation, match moving, motion capture, creating large-scale environments, and image compositing. Students will strengthen their art and production skills to apply them to professional film and television productions.

 

Students must complete 4 specialized subjects, including:

  • COMP201 - Fundamentals of Image Compositing (Composite Basics - Chromakey, Node/Layer-Based CG & Live Image Compositing, 3D Projection, AOV)

  • VFX201 - Fundamentals of Visual Effects & Physics Simulation (Fluid Dynamics [Fire, Smoke, Explosion, Water], Particle Simulation, Procedural Volume [Cloud & Fog], Fur, Hair & Cloth Simulation)

  • VFX202 - Advanced Lighting & Large-scale Scene Production (Cinematic Lighting in Production, Photogrammetry, Procedural Modeling)

  • MM201 - Match Moving & Motion Capture in Film Production (Video Shooting Techniques, Environment & Object Tracking/Stabilizing, Body & Facial Motion Capture)



In the second part, students will specialize in different professional tracks: Story Design & Art Direction, Animation, or Visual Effects Production. Advanced training will begin for each specialization to help student teams create high-quality animation projects. Through a 6-month team animation short film project, students will reach a production standard ready for industry employment.

Students must complete the following 2 project modules:

  • PROJ202A - Graduation Project (Pre-production: Pre-planning for large-scale projects, animation & VFX short film creation, scene and character design)

  • PROJ202B&C - Graduation Project (Production: Project management, animation technology development, completing the creation of the team's graduation animation / VFX short film)


Software includes: Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine, Houdini, EmberGen, LiquiGen, Nuke, After Effects, Midjourney, ComfyUI, and various AI tools. (Tools are continuously updated to align with industry trends and demands!)
 

​​ Evening Part-time Course  It start in early September annually, lasting two years. (640+ training hours)

Career Opportunities: 3D Animator; Multmedia Designer; Digital Game Animator; Compositor; VFX Artist & Art Designer.

 

Learning Mode: Face-to-face & Online Tutoring
Language: Cantonese supplemented with English terminology (if needed)

Learning Resources: Our campus features a physical library with over 450 Japanese and American animation and film art reference books. We are equipped with comprehensive film and animation production facilities, including professional-grade computer workstations, digital drawing tablets, color-accurate preview monitors, and the latest professional-grade body and facial motion capture systems.

 

Graduation Certificate: Students must meet the following criteria to graduate:

  1. Attendance: At least 80% attendance across all courses.

  2. Assignments: Complete and pass all subject assignments.


Admission Requirements:

  1. Must be 18 years old or above. ;

  2. Basic computer literacy required; prior animation knowledge is a plus. *

  3. A 1-hour interview with the Course Director will be scheduled. Please bring your art portfolio. *

To provide opportunities for individuals who may lack tertiary qualifications but possess creative talent and artistic skills, this course has no minimum academic entry requirements.。

We highly recommend taking our Entry-Level Course alongside your application to better prepare for the program.

Your personal portfolio can include 3D designs, hand-drawn artwork, photography, video recordings, or any of your past creative artwork. The main purpose is to help instructors understand your current skills and program suitability, enabling tailored individual guidance throughout your training.


According to the 2024-25 admission statistics, students in this Professional Diploma program are generally aged between 20 and 50. (On average, this equals $3,800 per month / $380–$420 per class.)


Payment Options:

  • 2 Installments (Every 12 months): HKD $44,400 (Discounted price)

  • 8 Installments (Every 3 months): HKD $11,400 per installment
